Michael Crichton Stamp by Rika24 Michael Crichton Stamp by Rika24
I'm not sure who actually looks at a deviant artist's interests area, but those that have looked at mine know that Michael Crichton is my number one favorite author. Sadly, today I found out that yesterday Michael Crichton died of cancer at the age of 66.

I was really sad about this when I heard it on the news and almost cried. No more of his amazing books.

Michael Crichton always inserted a lot of scientific facts into his books, along with suspense and sometimes horror. Kind of like reading your school science book only with a plot and characters. Crichton always wrote about technology gone wrong, whether it's the resurrection of dinosaurs in "Jurassic Park," or killer nanobots with a mind of their own like in "Prey." The plots in his books combined with the scientific facts make the events taking place in them seem very possible that they can happen. This way of writing had given him the title: "King of the Techno-Thriller"

Crichton is most likely best known for his amazing novel, Jurassic Park and its sequel, The Lost World. It was because of the movie that I picked up the book and that's when I became a huge fan of him and his work. (The books are a thousand times better by the way, ESPECIALLY "The Lost World").

Some other works he has done include: Twister, Congo, Timeline, The Andromeda Strain, Sphere, The 13th Warrior/Eaters of the Dead, and Prey. He is also the creator of the tv series, ER.

These, however, are my favorites by him:

Jurassic Park: From the back of the book
An astonishing technique for recovering and cloning dinosaur DNA has been discovered. Now, one of mankind's most thrilling fantasies has come true. Creatures extinct for eons now roam Jurassic Park with their awesome presence and profound mystery and all the world can visit them-- for a price. Until something goes wrong...

In Jurassic Park, Michael Crichton taps all of his mesmerizing talent and scientific brilliance to create his most electrifying techno-thriller yet

The Lost World From the back of the book
It is now six years since the secret disaster at Jurassic Park, six years since the extraordinary dream of science and imagination came to a crashing end--the dinosaurs destroyed, the park dismantled, and the island indefinitely closed to the public. There are rumors that something has survived...

And I can't forget to mention my number one favorite book by him:

Prey From the back of the book
In the Nevada desert, an experiment has gone horribly wrong. A cloud of nanoparticles--micro-robots-- has escaped from the laboratory. This cloud is self-sustaining and self-reproducing. It is intelligent and learns from experience. For all practical purposes, it is alive.

It has been programmed as a predator. It is evolving swiftly, becoming more deadly with each passing hour. Every attempt to destroy it has failed. And we are the prey.

---------------------------------------------------------

It is very sad to see such a great writer die. To me, there is no author like him, and there never will be another

By the way, there is one more book of his that he had just finished that will be coming out in 2009; you know I'll be checking it out.

as always, please do not upload this anywhere

Do ya think that if he was still alive, would he had made more Jurassic Park books?

no, from what i've read he never intended to even write The Lost World. He only did because he was asked.

Micheal Crichton is my favourite author too. :) His books were amazing, I'm currently reading Congo, though I loved Jurassic park. The way he described things in his writing was spectacular.

i'm gonna take a break from both Crichton and King after i read Sphere and King's The Stand. i think it's time to branch out and read another author for a change. it seems like all i've ever read for fun were Stephen King, Michael Crichton, J. K. Rowling, and Jack London ^^;

I love this man. So much. All of his books are masterpieces. You feel like you take part of the story and the amount of emotions you feel is intense. At least that's how I feel. Unfortunately, I discovered the wonder of his books after his death, which absolutely broke my heart. T_T
Like you, I only picked up his books thanks to the JP movie trilogy. But I'm so glad I did. Cause everything I have read thus far has been amazing. Just finished Timeline, in fact (: Working on the Great Train Robbery now.
I really wish I could use this xD Unfortunately, no sub.

yes they are. i'm glad you've been getting into his books, it's a great way to remember him.

he actually allowed his fans to mail their books to him to sign for free (you just had to pay return shipping). I really wanted to send Jurassic Park to him but i was always nervous because i didn't want it getting lost in the mail on the way there.

i held off for a year and then I heard that he died. i really wish i had sent the book :cries:

I can't believe I didn't find this sooner! D: I'm a huge fan of his. Last year for Christmas, my mom got me one of the last books he ever signed (t'was Next)

Have you read his new one? He was working on it when he died and it was published post-mortem. It's called Pirate Latitudes.

He also wrote some books under Pseudonyms. One of my favorites was written by "Jeffery Hudson". It's called Case of Need. It's a great medical thriller!. :3

RIP Michael Crichton!

Ugh... Prey.
Work of art, in my opinion.

I think I heard that Mr. Crichton
was working on the script for
the movie before he moved
on. Either way, the movie is
in production.

TLW was decent. Nothing compared to the book, though. In my opinion, the only good thing about JP3 was it had scenes from the books that weren't used. If they plan to make JP4, it better be good.

What about Prey? do you think they should make a movie based on it?

How did you read 'Next'? With all the storylines, I prefer to read each character's story seperately, then the whole book.

Ah, The andromeda strain. Definantly one of his many clasics. MC is one of the few authors who break the rule and write many greats, as opposed to one. Prey was also My favorite, but I was hoping the 'Ghost man' would be a swarm Julia brought back. All in all, the man was the best of his time. Followed by Steve Alten.
